Twenty-four years ago Janet Jackson steamed up the air waves with “That’s The Way Love Goes” as she lusted for a certain man… an eternal story line that probably goes back to Chaucer and the Canterbury Tales, with the latest rendition “The Cure” by Lady Gaga, in what could be a new musical direction for her or maybe just this one time.

Jackson’s is more lustful, like a “woman in heat” vs. Gaga’s recognition that a solid, lasting relationship needs, in addition to lust, also caring, respect, loyalty.

Both songs project strong women, who are also vulnerable, in control yet willing to surrender, valuing their relationships.

The vibe on “That’s The Way Love Goes” is smooth–old skool, R&B, real sensual.  Gaga’s is more Celine Dion.

Gaga debuted “The Cure” at the Coachella Music Fest a few weeks ago, and it’s already an international hit.  In the U.S. it’s Top 20 on both traditional Top 40 and Adult Top 40 radio.

Lady Gaga Trivia:  The Cure” was co-written by “Mother Monster,” a name Lady Gaga sometimes uses.
