This week’s “Weekly Whatever” has left me speechless, and it’s my new favorite song!

All I can say is: you have to hear it.  S.O.B. by Nathanial Rateliff & The Night Sweats.

Here’s a guy who can’t stop drinking, but his take on the whole thing is just so off the wall–there’s no crying in your beer here, in fact, it’s almost a party!

The song’s roots are rock n’ roll – horns, sax– R&B, southern gospel, acapella, and jug band. Basically, it’s indescribable.  Soulful, energetic, original and unexpected get you in the right direction.

Rateliff grew up in rural Missouri; moved to Denver in his late teens; right now he looks Brooklyn hip, with the tats, and the hat, and all that.

His recent performance on Jimmy Fallon was electric, with Falllon rightfully jumping for joy, and the audience giving the band a standing ovation. You can see that performance on the band’s website http://www.nathanielrateliff.com

Kudos

Amazon listed his album as the number-one album you might have missed in 2010.

The New York Times  pushed his show in NYC to “mojo” which gave his record a four-star review.

BG

Formed in his current band in 2013.

He’s been around for a while, in different bands with different names.
