Some people are born “old souls”–wise and experienced beyond their years, and Adele must be one of them– how else could she sing these bitter-sweet and poignant lyrics so convincingly, at just 25-years old?
You still look like a movie
You still sound like a song
My God, this reminds me
Of when we were young
Let me photograph you in this light
In case it is the last time
That we might be exactly like we were
Then again, Linda Ronstadt was only 30-years old when she sang the tender, haunting “Someone To Lay Down Beside Me” which also sounds like a woman wise beyond her years, and who’s had her share of tears.
Both songs are heavy on the heart, not bitter, just melancholy. The kind of song a single woman who is hurting would play alone, in her apartment, 10 times in a row.
“When We Were Young,” showcases Adele’s Big. Full. Voice. It’s already in the Top 10, and it’s a safe bet it will hit #1.
