Last week, the 50th Super Bowl was played in Santa Clara, California, a festive event that contrasts with San Francisco’s recent mourning over the death, at age 74, of one of its local music legends, Paul Kantner, co-founder of The Jefferson Airplane.
In a strange twist of fate, the group’s original female vocalist, Signe Anderson, died on the very same day and at the same age.
Shortly before she left the group, later to be replaced by Grace Slick, Anderson backed lead singer Marty Balin on “It’s No Secret” from the “Jefferson Airplane Takes Off,” the band’s first album release.
This Sunday night during the 2016 Grammy Awards, Jefferson Airplane will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
