If ever there was a “Must Listen To,” Elle King’s latest, “America’s Sweetheart,” is it! It’s eye popping! Dazzling! Will probably go to #1!
This song is about female empowerment, being comfortable in one’s own skin, blazing your own path. It crackles with clever lyrics:
Well they say I’m too loud for this town
So I lit a match and burned it down
And
My kind of medicine is whiskey straight,
I got a mouth to put you in your place, and they,
They said I’ll never be the poster type,
But they don’t make posters of my kind of life
Elle is an artist with attitude. Her sound is original, influenced by country, soul, rock and bluegrass. Her style is in your face, loud and bold. Hard core chick rock n’ roll.
“America’s Sweetheart” brings to mind Aretha Franklin’s “R-E-S-P-E-C-T,” which also addressed female empowerment in a big, bold way– a point of view that was so radical back then that it landed Aretha on the cover of Time magazine.
Even though she’s only 26 years old, Elle sings with determination and rocking gusto. For a good time, check out “America’s Sweetheart.”
I love her! Great blend of talent and attitude! Nice girls….watch out!
