Over 45 years ago, The Jackson 5, including a very young Michael, sang a plaintive, sweet, simple line: “I’ll be there”– a faithful promise, heartfelt, emotional, tender.
Today, it’s Justin Bieber who’s making a faithful promise in “Cold Water,” which is almost Top 10 in Top 40, and still climbing. It’s sweet, catchy, positive, snappy and up-tempo. A polished, multi-track production.
I won’t let go
I’ll be your lifeline tonight
And how sweet is this:
Cause we all get lost sometimes, you know?
It’s how we learn and how we grow.
Cold Water” is credited to “Major Lazer featuring Justin Bieber.” Major Lazer is a group of three producers who specialize in electronic dance sounds but are not bound by genre. They go in various musical directions to create a unique style that flows together no matter the tempo.
Their previous release, “Lean On” (but not the Bill Withers song) was a MONSTER hit— the song defined the word “infectious” and was Spotify’s most streamed song of ALL TIME.
As a Boomer, I don’t really “relate” to Justin Bieber. I know who he is, and his place in pop culture, but I don’t’ think I’d recognize his voice; this was my introduction to him, and both he, and the song are “age appropriate” for Boomers. He may be young, but songs of the heart are ageless.
