We live in an era of intensity, rapid change, a fast pace that bathes us daily in new, often repetitious and extraneous information and content.

So just imagine the jolt it was to listen to “Home” by alt-rockers Blue October—their new song is a direct descendent of Cat Stevens’ 1974 “Oh Very Young”– both are sensitive, gentle male solos, singing about gratitude and appreciation for love and security and the warmth of a family. The “little things.”

Like dancing in the kitchen in the pale moonlight

Only care in the world is that our kids are all right

Daddy loves mamma and mamma loves him

Tomorrow we get to do it over again

“Home” hit #1 on the Alternative Album chart the week it was released and now it’s proving its muscle as a pop hit, climbing quickly up the Adult Top 40 chart.

The the five-man band has paid their dues: Originally from Houston, TX;  they’ve been recording since the mid-90’s. “Home” is the title song off their 8th album.

They’ve  had eight Top 40 hits, two of which went platinum: “Hate Me” and “Into the Ocean” (which may sound familiar to Fans of “The Soprano’s”).
