Earlier this year Zayn Malik from the group One Direction scored a massive hit with his debut single “Pillow Talk.”

Now, his one time band mate, Niall Horan also has a hit with his his first solo effort called “This Town” and it’s achingly sweet, tender and innocent.

Waking up to kiss you and nobody’s there

The smell of your perfume still stuck in the air

It’s Hard

Yesterday I thought I saw your shadow running round

It’s funny how things never change in this old town

Niall Horan, an Irish singer/songwriter, is only 23-years old—most Boomers have children that age—yet he has wide ranging musical tastes — he said Frank Sinatra was a major influence and his list of favorites includes Michael Buble, the Eagles and Bon Jovi, acts that are well known to Boomers.

Paul Simon’s 1975 hit “My Little Town” has a different lyrical focus than “This Town” but there is a connection in vocal style and melody to both tunes.

Here’s Paul Simon’s “My Little Town” and a link to Horan’s “This Town.
