An artist can’t go wrong with a song about how quickly time passes, considering that it’s an inevitable part of the human condition.
From the Rolling Stones “Time Is On My Side ” to Willie Nelson’s “Funny How Time Slips Away” to Jim Croce’s “Time in A Bottle,” the music reflects our universal desire to hold on to the present, especially now, in the digital age, when it seems most everybody’s lifestyle is hectic and stressful with a culture wide desire to s-l-o-w down just enough to savor special moments –maybe make them last just a bit longer.
That’s the message in “Fast,” the latest hit by Country superstar Luke Bryan.
The lyrics are relatable. Lines like this touch a nerve:
“sixty seconds now feels more like thirty”
It’s likely that’s what his listeners are experiencing, listening in their car, or office, racing from one appointment to the next. He’s reminding us to cherish the moment.
Personally, I don’t think “Fast” is as sophisticated, or subtle as the above-mentioned songs, “Fast” is twangy—Bryan is from Georgia, and he sounds it. But, on the other hand, Bryan knows of what he speaks: when he was just 19-years his older brother was killed in a car accident, and a short time after his debut at the Grand Old Opry, his older sister died unexpectedly of unknown causes.
Luke Bryan is big. His current album (“Kill The Lights”) has already delivered five #1 hits, with “Fast” the latest release.
