Miley Cyrus’s 17-year-old younger sister, Noah Cyrus, another of Billy Ray’s daughters, has released her first top 40 single, “Make Me (Cry)” currently ranked at #25 and climbing.
The song’s about young, passionate lovers having the kind of misunderstanding that includes the throwing of chairs and smashing of dishes. (At least in the video).
Noah’s been around show business since childhood, and while a well connected family might give her an edge in the savvy dept., in the world of pop music, if a song is going to “go the distance” it has to “deliver the goods.”
And she does.
Cyrus’s voice has that sand-papery sound similar to Bonnie Tyler‘s 1978 multi-million seller “It’s A Heartache,” also about troubled love.
Tyler’s song is more up-tempo than “Make Me (Cry) but both singers deliver strong, forceful, emotional vocals.
Noah’s adorable, dewy, fresh face contrasts with the fiery, bombastic lyrics and actions of lovers who are simultaneously angry and in need.
The production got expert guidance from producer Labrinth, an all around musical talent from Britain, who also lent his vocal skills to the song.
