The lines between music genres continues to blur, as seen at last week’s Grammy Awards, when Country superstars Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood debuted “The Fighter,” a high energy, pop leaning, crowd pleasing duet about a guy pledging his devotion, that became, the very next day, the the “most added” song by Country radio programmers from coast to coast.
“The Fighter” has a good pedigree: co-written by San Francisco area songwriter/producer “busbee,” who has a long list of credits with both major Country and Pop singers.
“The Fighter” is a reminder of the fireworks that go off when pros play their own game of lyrical and musical volleyball–remember the chemistry between Elton John and Kiki Dee that turned “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” into one of 1976’s biggest hits?
.
“The Fighter” has a similar male/female banter. It’s not very Country sounding, so don’t let that label keep you away.
