“Breaking up” is a painful experience, regardless of age, gender and/or generation, however it makes for great music.

Bob Dylan wrote about it, in his 20s, with “It Ain’t Me Babe” and the Turtles sang about it in their 20s when they made it a hit in 1965, and now it’s Pop-Star and quasi-cultural icon, Selena Gomez, just 24-years old, with her own “It Ain’t Me,” sounding wise, and worldly.

This is a pop song but it’s serious in words and tone; a breakup-ballad with a tender, feminine touch.

Who’s gonna rock you

When the sun won’t let you sleep?

Who’s waking up to drive you home

When you’re drunk and all alone?

Who’s gonna walk with you

Through the dark side of the morning?

The lyrics are traditional and sentimental, but the sound is moody; hip and club-y; the mix has an international feel, with unusual sounds, and creative production, much of it contributed by Gomez’s 25-year old Norwegian collaborator, hot-hot DJ/Producer KYGO.

This song will be big, especially with young women, of whom many, upon hearing the lyrics, will  assume it’s a message to Gomez’s former boyfriend Justin Bieber.

The Remarkable Selena Gomez

She and “the Biebs” were an item for years; lots of breaking up and making up.  Prior to that, she was a child star on “Barney & Friends” and then, when she was about 17-years old, she got famous as the lead in the Disney Channel’s “Wizards of Waverly Place (2007-2012).

Gomez ‘s own production company has produced a Netflix series “13 Reasons Why” (based on the best selling book of the same name), which debut’s on March 31st, 2017.  By that time “It Ain’t Me” will be all over the radio, in the clubs, at retail, in restaurants. .

She got a clothing line sold at K-mart and a fragrance; she’s a philanthropist and was a UNICEF Ambassador at 17-years old.

Hahaha:  “It Ain’t Me”  was produced by the Norwegian DJ/producer who goes by the name KYGO (KY-GO); KYGO are also the call letters for a Country radio station in Denver, CO, but it’s highly unlikely KYGO-FM in Denver will be playing this this song.
