A top-of-the-line Country music tear-jerker is as good as misery can get, and “Tin Man” is the latest in the long standing tradition of stories that tell of a woman’s broken heart.
Nothing tops honest emotion, and honest emotion is what you get in Miranda Lambert’s newest single, “Tin Man,” a stirring melody with lyrics that are–one assumes– musical arrows shot in the direction of former husband Blake Shelton (currently partnered with Gwen Stefani).
The “Tin Man” in the title refers to the character in the “Wizard of Oz” who yearned for a “real heart.” Lambert offers hers, scarred and in pieces, because having a real heart is too painful. She even suggests a trade: his armor for her heart. Ouch!
Many of the songs in her Academy of Country Music award-winning album (“Weight of These Wings”) of which “Tin Man” is one, are fueled by both her marital break up and her current relationship with a fellow musician.
Still holding up after 20+ years is Martina McBride’s “Where I Used To Have A Heart,” another bona fide heart breaker delivered as only a Country music diva can.
