Nashville was freezing on New Years Eve, but that’d didn’t prevent Keith Urban from entertaining 100,000 party revelers for”Music City Midnight.”
One highlight was this 9+ minute medley of hits from music icons who died in 2017—all formats were honored, beginning with Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” to honor Chris Cornell, followed by “Midnight Rider” honoring Gregg Allman, to Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Goode, Don Williams’ “Tulsa Time”, Glen Campbells “Wichita Lineman,” to Troy Gentry with the Montomery Gentry hit “My Town” and then into those famous chords of “Back In Black” by AC/DC, who lost their rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young, closing with a moving performance of Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin’.”
This was the the second year in a row that Urban paid tribute to music icons who had died the previous year, and it, alone, was worth the price of admission.
