In 2015, James Bay was named Best British Male Vocalist; his “Hold Back The River” (2014) is certified platinum, and in 2016, he was nominated for three Grammy’s: Best Rock Album, Best New Artist and Best Rock Song.
Boomer Music Update raved about “Hold Back The River,” citing Bay’s great hooks, compelling rhythms and sensitive, insightful lyrics. https://boomermusicupdate.com/pop/james-bays-haunting-lyrics-hark-back-to-the-moody-blues/
His newest, “Wild Love,” a ballad, is lusher than his previous ones, with electronic musicianship added for good measure.
And, although Cheap Trick packed a bit more power in 1988’s “The Flame” (with that great line: “You were the first last one”) there’s a link between both song’s melodic elements and the mood they set.
Bay’s 2nd album, “Electric Light,” releases next month. “Wild Love,” its first single, has generated Adult Top 40 exposure.
