Dave and I both love “That’s How You Know,” an adorable, witty, charming, modern, and fun song by Nico and Vinz, despite the dismal content that life is hard and we mess it up. Warning: it uses “the f word,” but in the most endearing, self-effacing way.
Dave links “That’s How You Know” to Tracy Chapman’s 1988 top-ten hit “Fast Car,” which has that same staccato story telling sound, and is also a song about how hard life is, and how you can mess it up.
Singer/songwriters Nico and Vinz had a mega hit last year with “Am I Wrong,” which I had never heard of, so before even listening to this new recommendation, I went to YouTube and listened to “Am I Wrong,” and was, along with 238 million other youtube viewers, “blown away,” as we used to say.
I’m astonished at all the great, brand new music that’s out there and I love the feeling of wanting to run out and tell everybody “you have to listen to this.”
“That’s How You Know” is #1 this week, and it’s the first single from a new, not yet completed, album and features rapper Kid Ink along with talented songwriter and singer Bebe Rexha.
