It’s not what you think, rather, it’s an incredibly hot, smoldering, sultry song of (heterosexual) lust and love that stayed #1 for 11 weeks on Billboards Country charts, the longest time spent at #1 than any other song in the chart’s 56 year history. Now it’s climbing the pop charts– a rare crossover hit. And what an earworm! I’ve been humming it for weeks.
The first few notes of ‘Girl Crush” have the haunting feel of The Beach Boys “In My Room,” but it’s the sexy, seductive delivery by singer Karen Fairchild that fuels this production, and brings back memories of The Paris Sisters 1961 hit “I Love How You Love Me,” another breathy song of feminine desire. “I Love How You Love Me” was produced by Phil Spector, sold over a million copies, and peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Pop chart.
Little Big Town has been recording since 1998 with the same four members: Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Jimi Westbrook, and Phillip Sweet. All four members alternate as lead singers. They’ve had numerous hits, but ‘Girl Crush” is in a class by itself.
