In 2015, British singer/songwriter Sam Smith won Grammys for Best New Artist and his debut hit, “Stay With Me,” won for both Song and Record of the Year. Since then, there have been several more hit singles and two number one albums.
His newest, “Dancing With A Stranger,” a duet with Normani, blends R&B and Pop influences and is accentuated by the exceptional vocal talents of both artists. It’s charting top 10 in Top 40 and Adult Top 40 formats.
“Dancing With A Stranger,” like Sam Smith, is cool, aloof, and sophisticated. The song has an easy flow, and it’s about not wanting to spend the night alone, after a recent break-up.
Smith and Normani are controlled energy–very different than George Michael and Aretha Franklin’s duet, 1987’s Grammy winning “I Knew You Were Waiting (for me),” which is explosive energy and about finding love and happiness.
