Robin Thicke’s energy bursts through his newest Top 40 hit, “Back Together,” fueled by the same danceable rhythm that drives Bobby Browns 1989 hit “Every Little Step,” even though Bobby Brown’s song is more up-tempo.
By now, most songs are so intertwined with their videos it’s hard to imagine your own interpretation, but “Back Together,” featuring Nicki Minaj, sounds like another of Thicke’s appeals and apologies to his former wife, Paula Patton, who divorced him last year, however, the disco beat and Minaj’s rap keep the song from getting sappy.
