Nice to know that while some are intent on polarizing us, here’s a song that celebrates diversity.
The band Walk The Moon (WTM) is riding their first wave of success, still getting a ton of exposure on pop stations with their earlier single “Shut Up And Dance,” (which reached #1), while their newest release, “Different Colors,” clicked in the Alternative format and is now now edging into the Top 10. It’s a fun romp with a message. An intelligent song inside of a cotton candy wrapper.
Dave hears a bit of the “Genesis technique” filtering in on “Different Colors” and suggests a listen to 1986’s “Invisible Touch” to hear the connection, pointing out that there are some vocal similarities to Phil Collins in this track, but it’s more of a tonality.
I took him up on the suggestion, and what struck me was that both songs have deep, yet simple messages, and each song just puts it out there, then makes some thoughtful, lovely music to go around it.
I especially love the 60s “love is all you need” premise of “Different Colors, and the loopy, poppy presentation.
