Today’s connect is the familiar, classic “Wild World” by Cat Stevens, now Yusaf Islam, to“Wasn’t Expecting That,” a new song by Jamie Lawson that is climbing the charts as we speak.
Both are by sensitive singer/songwriters from across the pond, and both songs reveal a man’s vulnerability to love.
Why you’ll want to listen: because this song is a GEM! Its stark production, sung with honest sensitivity, will suck you in. It’s tender and sweet and real. Heads up: you might want to have a tissue handy–by the end of the song, you could be teary.
“Wasn’t Expecting That” is similar to the opening sequence in the movie “UP”– within minutes you know their whole life story, from elementary school to old age, the sweet, and the bittersweet.
Personally, I think it’s great to be connected to some of the really good, new music that’s out there. I like the feeling I get when I hear a new song in a restaurant, or at the mall, and it’s familiar to me.
Full disclosure: Could be categorized as a “chick song.”
