In 1968, nine-time Grammy winner and uber-talented Jose Feliciano crash landed into the zeitgeist with his stylized, soft ballad version of the Doors “Light my Fire.” Released as a single, the flip side of the 45 was also a cover: The Mama & The Papas’ “California Dreamin,” a song which has recently been resurrected thanks to its inclusion in the soundtrack of Quentin Tarantino’s hit movie “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood.”
Feliciano soon derailed his career with an unorthodox rendition of the “Star Spangled Banner” at a major-league baseball game, however, he regained his success and status via “Feliz Navidad,” now a Christmas classic.
The documentary “Behind the Guitar” follows the arc of Feliciano’s life and career, confirming his place in pop-culture.
In Jan. he released his latest album, also named “Behind the Guitar,” produced by long-time collaborator and Grammy-nominated producer Rick Jarrard.
