If you’re an  early Boomer  who grew up a typical teen in 1950s-60s USA, then you probably listened to Top 40 radio, a virtual “teen town” hangout,  your go-to to get connected, to find out what was happening, plus… you could  send dedications and make requests.

Those dedications and requests were the genius of Art Laboe, who also gave eternal shelf-life to past hits, rebranding them as “oldies but goodies” –then came concerts, record albums, radio stations, TV shows and appearances, a star on Hollywood Blvd., and a letter of appreciation from then President Ronald Reagan…

..and he’s still on the radio.  His Sunday night show  on KDAY/ Los Angeles has legions of fans, and  is syndicated to numerous other markets.

The video tribute below was shown Feb., 2019, when the Pacific Pioneer Broadcasters honored Art with a prestigious career achievement award.  It’s entertaining and insightful and a must see for Boomers into oldies, for fans of pop culture, and music aficionados of all ages.

Also, Southern California News Group’s  (SCNG) Peter Larsen did a terrific interview with Art in Feb. The link is below.

Radio legend Art Laboe, the original oldie but goodie, is still on-air after nearly 80 years
