It doesn’t matter if you loved your home town and stayed put, or if you couldn’t wait to leave it–hometowns house indelible memories of life-changing moments.
Country singer/songwriter Morgan Wallen LOVES his hometown–the gas station where he gets his morning coffee, the bite of a bass, and, of course, his childhood sweetheart:
Girl, our mamas are best friends and so are we
The whole town’s rooting for us like the home team
Unfortunately, the girlfriend’s eyes see her prize in the Big City, and even though the boy loves her …he loves his hometown even more…
On the other hand, Simon & Garfunkel did not love “My Little Town,” (1975) with the factory smoke dirtying up the laundry drying on the line; they were quite specific:
Everything’s the same
Back in my little town
Currently #24 on the Country chart, Wallen’s “More Than My Hometown” is mellow but not slow and (heads up) it’s v-e-r-y Country.
