New York Indy-Pop band AJR (brothers Adam, Jack and Ryan) is crossing over into the Alternative world (top 5 on this week’s chart) with “Sober Up,” their newest.  It’s Very High Energy, and the lyrics are fresh:

Won’t you help me sober up?
Growing up, it made me numb

And

My favorite color is you

AJR and  the Beach Boys could not be more different in their stage presentation, i.e. the Beach Boys are buttoned up and oh, so presentable, while AJR  is  WILD–they they jump around completely uninhibited, wearing crazy hats and nerdy glasses.

And yet, there’s a connection:

•  AJR credits the Beach Boys as a musical influence.

•  Listening to the 1964 Beach Boys classic, “Wendy,” one can detect some Beach Boys style on “Sober Up.”

•  Sober Up” was co-written by multi talented singer, songwriter and Weezer guitarist Rivers Cuomo.

•  Weezer has a song on their recently released album “Pacific  Daydream,” titled “Beach Boys.”
