There’s a terrific new song out– “A 1000 Times” –that glides along with tender emotion on a melody that resembles Peter, Paul & Mary’s “500 Miles” which was a hit in 1962, folk music’s halcyon days.

“A 1000 Times” is an intense song about “the big picture”—time, aging, our place in the world– “500 Miles” tells a simpler tale, but both songs are laments, one all clear and pure folk, and the other modern and existential.

Both songs mesmerize with a repetitive, lulling refrain.

A thousand times, a thousand times
I’ve had that dream a thousand times
A thousand times, a thousand times
I’ve had that dream a thousand times

“A 1000 Times” is collaboration between Hamilton Leithauser, a 39-year old multi-talented American vocalist, writer and musician who has been in numerous bands and is a possible poster child for “Musicians Who’ve Paid Their Dues” and Rostam Batmanglij aka simply as Rostam, 33-years old, also an American singer, writer, producer and musician.

Both “500 Miles” and “A 1000 Times” are powerful and memorable songs —the combo of the lyrics –images, sound bites, snippits of memory, and suggestions– and the above mentioned hypnotic refrains, deliver an emotional experience.

“A 1000 Times” entered the Top 20 on Adult Alternative stations.
