The word “classic” can be overused, but not when it’s applied to Bob Dylan’s 1965 masterpiece “Like A Rolling Stone,” ranked by Rolling Stone magazine as the number one single of all time on their Top 500 list.

We’re not saying that singer/songwriter Brett Dennen’s “Here’s Looking At You Kid” is in the same league as “Like a Rolling Stone,” but we are saying that the two songs have similarities, like the organ pounding away in those big sweeping passages; passion; imaginative, abstract, smart sounding lyrics…

I had the time of my life
I never thought it would end
I wish that I could go back to the very beginning
And do it all over again

Dennen’s been touring with Jason Mraz, but now he’s heading out on his own, beginning early next month. His tour is also named “Here’s Looking At You Kid,” which, btw, is charting top 20 on the Adult Alternative format.

We wrote about Dennens’ previous hit, “Already Gone,” back in March, praising his innate ability to blend pop/rock and folk. We concluded that he should be more famous than he is.

Dennen is 38-years old, from central California. He’s been singing professionally for almost 15 years.
