Fellow Boomers, do you remember Jerry Butler’s riveting, stentorian basso profundo as he opens “For Your Precious Love?”

When you listen to Lord Huron’s “Night We Met,” both in the intro and in the elements of the melody, you’ll hear the distinct and haunting underpinnings of that very same “For Your Precious Love.”

“Night we Met” is an old fashioned “slow song.” Sad and serious, it muses about the mysteries of falling in and out of high-school love.  However, the lyrics are mature and artistic, not sophomoric:

I had all and then most of you, some and now none of you

And

I am not the only traveler

Who has not repaid his debts

Other than the fact that it’s a really good song, another reason that “Night We Met” is so popular is that it’s the theme to the Netflix series “13 Reasons,” a drama-mystery series that targets young adults, and is based on the YA novel “Thirteen Reasons Why” by Jay Asher.

“For Your Precious Love” was popular in 1958, too early for the bulk of Boomers to have experienced it as hit, however, it was played for years after that as a “Golden Oldie” thus reaching millions more Boomers.

Lord Huron is a four piece band from L.A. by way of Michigan.

“Night We Met” is Top 10 on Adult Alternative and Top 25 on Alternative radio.
