Who could it be? Is it 25-year old Aretha Franklin singing 1967’s “Chain of Fools,” and hurting so bad you could feel it, too, or is it 24-year old British singer/songwriter Bishop Briggs who made her U.S. TV debut just last month on Jimmy Fallon’s show, and blew the place away?

Both, of course.  If you do now or ever have gotten into a groove with Aretha Franklin, than it’s a good shot Bishop Briggs’ “River” is your cup of tea.

She’s really cute and quirky looking with three pony-tails sprouting out of her head, and that swishy short skirt; she sings with so much pent up energy  she literally bounces up and down, like a kid on a pogo stick.

But it’s her huge pipes that rope you in.  “River” vibrates.  It’s raw.

I’m not exactly sure what her song is about—specifically—the lyrics are all there, but they’re cryptic–let’s just say it’s a love thing, I assume with a man, and the relationship is intense.

How intense?  This intense:

Choke this love till the veins start to shiver

One last breath till the tears start to wither

One kiss away from killing

And there’s more:

How do we fall in love

Harder than a bullet could hit ya?

How do we fall apart

Faster than a hair pin trigger?

From a Boomer perspective, she’s young.  Is she overly emotional or is she over-reacting? Not at all!  I bought every word and every breath.

Briggs isn’t well known yet, so this is a heads up that a big talent has arrived from across the pond.

She’s currently one of the top five most played artists on Alternative radio.

Her given name is  Sarah Grace McLaughlin.

Born in London to Scottish parents from Bishop Briggs, Scotland, which inspired her professional name.

When she was four years old, her family moved to Tokyo, and later to Hong Kong.

She started writing songs at 7-years old.

At 18 she moved to Los Angeles, where she lives now.
