That’s the title of this Must. Listen. To. new song by Austin, TX based rockers White Denim, a band and that has tossed out the rulebook and goes with what feels good. It’s difficult to pin down their comfort zone as their music is influenced by all kinds of rock: psychedelic, progressive, punk and experimental, plus blues, soul, and jazz, and it’s presented with a garage band, jamming approach.
“Ha Ha Ha Ha (Yeah)” is good and clean and down and dirty– old fashioned high energy rock and roll. No drugs, no complicated feelings, no grandiose visions or thoughts, just the basic boy wants girl and let’s have a good time—but not teenage-y—this song is for grown ups.
From the moment we met you could see that I was filled with desire
Only one thing in common baby, but our love is pure fire
In other words, despite the mis-match, it’s chemistry that ignites the fire—between men and women, and between a band and their audience-somehow, these four guys transmit their energy so that the listener is absorbed into the moment and not only feels like dancing (wildly), but also feels ageless.
“Ha Ha Ha Ha (Yeah)” deserves to be on everyone’s party song list this summer—its feel good vibe recalls Wild Cherry’s “Play That Funky Music,” a one hit wonder from the mid-70’s that’s played at least once at most high school reunions and wedding receptions.
White Denim’s fifth album, ”Stiff,” will be released Next Friday (3/25). That’s a clever, tongue in cheek title, because in the music business, a “stiff” is a song that sinks like a stone, or that starts up the chart, then falsl off, never to be heard again.
