The current hit: “Can’t Let Go”  by Robert Plant/Alison Krauss

Linked to:  “Can’t Let Go” by Lucinda Williams / 1998

Because:  It’s a  stone-cold cover.

1998 was Lucinda Williams’ year, and her breakout hit, the gritty and raw with-a-90s-vibe, “Can’t Let Go,” was a sensation, garnering her, one-year later, a Grammy nomination for Best Female Rock /Vocal Performance.

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss’ version is polished, slick, s-m-o-o-t-h, better produced, with a contemporary vibe that fits well with today’s Adult Alternative sound.

Plant and Krauss won a Grammy in 2009 for their album collaboration, “Raising Sand,” and here’s their T-Bone Burnett produced follow up, “Raise the Roof,” set for a Mid-November release.  “Can’t Let Go” is the first single from the album.

Charting:    #18 on the Adult Alternative chart.
