We know “Something Human” by British trio Muse has serious intentions, because the song opens and closes with the primal howl of a wolf. The theme is that of a lonely and pressured life on the road, and a longing for home
… ten thousand miles left on the road
… five hundred hours ’til I am home
I need something human, human
The group’s Matt Bellamy wrote the song, after the band’s recent 18-month tour, and you can really feel his pent up frustration and energy.
R.E.M’s 1992 “Man on the Moon” is a similarly serious song with a big picture theme. Recall that it paid tribute to ground breaking comedian/performance artist Andy Kaufman.
Both songs are smart and smooth, with great flow.
“Something Human” is currently #11 on the Alternative chart, and #12 on Adult Alt.
