If you love the beat and vocal intensity of Led Zeppelin’s 1973 hit “D’yer Mak’er” than you might want to try out “Mountain At My Gates” by UK indie-rock band Foals, which conjures up a similar sound, albeit with a slower tempo, plus the Zeppelin song is about his girl leaving, and the Foals one is about about how to deal with the challenges that life keeps throwing at you.

I can’t attest to the other Foals songs, but this one is fierce…potent… like Led Zeppelin, but the lyrics are so deep and real, much more relevant to Boomers than that of “D’yer Mak’er.”  You might remember these lines…

Oh, oh oh oh, oh oh, you don’t have to go
Oh, oh oh, oh oh, you don’t have to go
Oh, oh oh, oh oh, you don’t have to go
Ay, ay ay ay, ay ay, all those tears I cry
Ay, ay ay, ay ay, all those tears I cry
Oh oh, ay ay, baby please don’t go…

Compared to Foals

I see a mountain at my gates
I see it more and more each day
What I give, it takes away
Whether I go or when I stay

Or

Oh, gimme some time
Show me the foothold from which I can climb
Yeah, when I feel low
You show me a signpost for where I should go
