With the New Year just beginning, it’s another sign to be aware of the value of time.

Portugal The Man’s latest Alternative hit reminds us to “Live in the Moment”– it’s mid-tempo, innovative musically, sounds “adult” and has distinctive vocals that are easy to understand.

We love Portugal The Man.   Last Spring, we declared their “Feel It Still” a “Must Listen To”–at the time it was an Adult Alternative hit, but unknown to most everyone on the Pop music scene. Fast forward several months and it was charting #1 on Adult Alternative, Adult Top 40 and mainstream Top 40.  Definitely one of 2017’s music success stories. https://boomermusicupdate.com/alternative/new-different-must-listen/

“Live In The Moment” may be headed in a similar direction, though Pop stations (with a handful of exceptions) have yet to embrace it.

Ryan J. Prado wrote a review of it for Paste Magazine—and it’s too wild not to share:

“Live in the Moment” is a secular tune espousing adolescent abandon, which mid-song devolves into an R&B banger in the vein of Like a Prayer-era Madonna, with myriad production tweaks adding to a dizzying menagerie of vocal effects, synth squalls, triggered drums and an anthemic, propulsive vocal from Gourley. It’s another sugary-sweet dancehall jam that shows the band’s musical elasticity.

That said, “time” is a “timeless” topic.   Here’s Boy George’s contribution, from 1982’s  “Time (A Clock of the Heart),” another song that’s mid-tempo, innovative musically, sounds “adult” and has distinctive vocals that are easy to understand.
