Imagine Dragons latest hit rumbles and shakes with the attention grabbing percussion and powerful vocals that one would expect of a song titled “Thunder,” a rendition so provocative that Microsoft is using it in their TV ads promoting the Surface Laptop, so it might sound familiar. Or, maybe you saw it on YouTube, where it’s had over 200 million views.

In the late 80’s “500 Miles,” a hit by Scottish twins The Proclaimers was included in the quirky and romantic movie “Benny and Joon” (early Johnny Depp) and while both “Thunder” and “500 Miles” have an urgent, compelling, demanding percussive pull, it would be hard to image “Thunder” as part of a quirky romantic movie because it’s so edgy, with clipped, staccato lyrics:

Just a young gun with a quick fuse

I was uptight, wanna let loose

I was dreaming of bigger things

And wanna leave my own life behind

Not a yes sir, not a follower…

…I was lightning before the thunder

Imagine Dragons is one of the most creative and original bands making music today. They had a massive hit in April– “Believer,” which has become a sports anthem of sorts and is now often heard at sporting  events, even being performed by some college marching bands!

“Thunder” is the third most played song on Alternative rock radio stations this week, and it’s quickly crossing over to Adult and mainstream Top 40.

Imagine Dragons, a Las Vegas foursome, began their “Evolve” World Tour last week.
