This is a rare event: a #1 Country hit crossing over to #14 on the Adult Top 40 charts, and also getting spins by a handful of mainstream Top 40 outlets.
Even though “Tequila” by Dan & Shay definitely sounds “Country” the story line (and the video) are set in snowy Colorado, not Nashville or other Southern town, and the song is smooth and soothing and appealing– it’s modern but not “bro” nor is it a cry-in-your-beer sob story.
