Paying homage to the mid 80s Country super-group The Highwayman (Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson) are The Highwoman, a newly formed, all-women band with singer/songwriters Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby, Maren Morris and Amanda Shires.
The Highwoman are to be reckoned with: Powerful. Tough. Gutsy. A lot of talent and experience. Raw yet polished. Tight. The kind of in-your-face sound that an (all-male) hard rock band would belt.
They’ve just released their debut album, and although the first single is “Redesigning Women” it’s likely that movie-goers have already heard the band in the recent film “The Kitchen,” which included their powerful cover of Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 classic “The Chain” (which, btw, isn’t included in the album).
The Highwomen’s “The Chain” is a Country song that will appeal to people who don’t like Country music.
Here are both versions.
