Country music is in the throes of matching up a major star, like Kenny Chesney, with a pop star of equal stature, like Pink, and their collaboration “Setting The World On Fire” is the latest example of that trend.
So far this summer Brad Paisley and Demi Lovato combined their vocals on “Without A Fight” and Dierks Bentley and Elle King are enjoying big success with their song “Different For Girls.”
“Setting The World On Fire” is a good song: fast moving, up-tempo, catchy lyrics. Other then Kenny sounding Texas-ish, this could be a pop song. It forgoes Nashville for L.A.—La Cienega Blvd. to be exact — and includes sex, drugs and rock and roll—not your usual country fare and proof that not every country song is “about traveling down an old dirt road.”
Up all night and we were feelin’ so good
Yeah, we got a little highter than we probably should
and
We were strikin’ the matches right down to the ashes
Setting the world on fire, setting the world on fire
In it’s opening week nearly every country radio music outlet in America added the song to their playlists.
“Setting the World On Fire” will be on Kenny Chesney’s upcoming October album release “Cosmic Hallelujah.
