When you hear “Everything I Own” (1972, Bread), do you ever wonder “has a sadder song ever been written?”

I would give anything I own
Give up my life, my heart, my home
I would give ev’rthing I own
Just to have you back again

So emotional.

“Greatest Love Story” by Lanco is also over the top emotionalism, even though it’s actually a happy tale about childhood sweethearts who part and then reunite.

So corny!  It’s got just what you don’t want to hear in a Country song: a predictable romance and nasal vocals with a Southern accent.

And yet!  It works so well!

A case of “what’s not to like” (except for the nasal vocals with a Southern accent).  It’s a good, linear, story, well told… from 8-year old sweethearts to their young-adult marriage. Good vibes, full of grace and gratefulness.  The phrases are clever, the story line compelling, and it’s emotional.

As Lead singer Brandon Lancaster put is” “This song is taking you through a journey. That’s what love actually is, and if you’re going to have a love song, it’s cool to have one that  isn’t about people changing and having distance between each other and being confident and then not being confident”

“Greatest Love Story, ”  which got got early exposure on Ashton Kutchers Netflix sitcom “The Ranch”, which utilizes a Country music soundtrack, is ranked top 20 on this week’s Country charts.

Lanco, short for Lancaster & Company, is an abbreviation for lead singer Brandon Lancasters’ last name.
