Aaron Watson, who’s been on the brink of Country stardom for 20 years or so, is riding high on the biggest hit of his dues paying career.

The takeaway:  Watson took his wife of ten years out to dinner, realized how deep his feelings for her are, and, when they got home, he wrote “Outta Style,” a pop Country ode expressing the love and affection he has for her.

Though Watson might have taken a page from the David Bowie songbook referencing his early 70’s hit “Rebel Rebel,” musically there’s the thread of The Cars’ 1978 classic “Just What I Needed” that runs through this current country rocker.

“Outta Style” is ranking Top 25 on the Country charts and while the values it espouses are “Traditional Country” i.e. steadfast loyalty to those we love, and keeping a chaotic world at bay, the song’s presentation is tres “Modern County”—clean and sanitized—it’s not cut from the same piece of Country cloth as, say, a Johnny Cash song would be.
