What to make of Runaway Jane, a new Country-pop “Blond Band”…three gorgeous young women wearing “Daisy Dukes” and cowboy boots, who sound like the Dixie Chicks if the Dixie Chicks were proper young ladies instead of rebels, or Gretchen Wilson, if she was a Tri-Delt instead of trailer trash?

The hook to “Lipstick” is weak, and words are awkward:

If you’re gonna love somebody
Yeah you better love somebody
Who ruins your lipstick and not your mascara

HOWEVER…
…the rest of the lines are more creative and catchy and tell a story about Girl Power and Gurl Friend solidarity, i.e. we’ve all been there, go on to the next guy.  Their version of “You Go, Girl” and it has its charm.

The perfect kiss, can make a mess
Of the brightest shade of red
Yeah, you won’t mind a little reapplying

Maybe there’s just something about lipstick that makes for a good song?

Connie Francis had a hit in 1959 with “Lipstick On Your Collar,” her story about catching a cheater.  In 1965,  The O’Jays charted with “Lipstick Traces.”

Essentially, all three songs reminds us that lipstick is a powerful symbol, both for the women who wear it, and the men who want to kiss it off of them.

‘Runaway June’ is a new band (2016) featuring Naomi Cooke from Nashville and from California, Hannah
Mulholland and Jennifer Wayne, granddaughter of John Wayne.

This newest ode to “Lipstick” is their debut, and it’s currently one of Country radio’s  Top 30 most played songs.
