2017 has been Country singer/songwriter Luke Combs year.

His “Hurricane” went to #1, and so is his follow-up, “When It Rains, It Pours” which is a straight ahead Country sound with a clever, lighthearted story line– no heartbreak or hardship here–rather he wins $100 on his Lottery ticket, is the right caller on the radio and gets the Caribbean vacay, the Hooters waitress slips him her number, he enters a raffle and wins a 4- wheel drive.

Like the title says:  “When It Rains, It Pours.”

Luke Combs is the modern-day version of traditional Country, a sound that harkens back to singers like George Jones, who, although he was famous for his ability to express the saddest of emotions, also did fun songs with clever lyrics.  Both Jones and Combs have an in your face attitude; here Jones scoffs at aging in “I Don’t Need Your Rockin’ Chair,” which won 1993’s CMA award for “Vocal Event of the Year.”

Tonight, when all eyes are on Nashville for the 51st Annual Country Music Association awards  (live telecast at 8 Eastern/7 Central on ABC), we’ll find out if Combs wins for “New Artist Of The Year.”  Later, he’ll be live on Jimmy Kimmel’s special post CMA edition.

Luke Combs is: 27-years old; from North Carolina.
