Luke Combs, possibly the hottest artist in Country music today, has written one of the best social distancing songs out there, capturing  both our shared isolation experience and the public’s fancy.

Music programmers and the public LOVE it, and it their response has been big and  immediate.

“Six Feet Apart”  won the timing jackpot, coming out at that crucial moment when a song hits the right cultural note and takes off.

It’s a traditional, straightforward Country song—warm and clever, stating simple truths and seeking simple solace.

It’s a mystery, I suppose
Just how long this thing goes
But there’ll be crowds and there’ll be shows
And there will be light after dark
Someday when we aren’t six feet apart

Even though social distancing was not a thing in 1997, George Strait’s Country hit “Carrying Your Love With Me” made clear that the need for closeness was the same then as it is now, no matter if the distance is 6’ apart due to a contagious virus, or 600 miles apart because of a national concert tour.
