If you are a Baby Boomer, you’ve probably heard of Patsy Cline. Even if you weren’t into Country music, her hits were played on multiple formats. She had a beautiful voice and chose very good songs, but her claim to fame is that of an interpreter—a stylist– like Frank Sinatra, a member of that small club of singers who can take a really good song and make it great.
Jana Kramer’s a stylist, too. She didn’t write “I Got the Boy”—a new, really good country song, but she turns it into a hit.
How’s this for lyrics:
“I had the first kiss
She’ll get the last
She has the future
I have the past
I had the boy
She has the man”
Timeless content that almost everyone can relate to—an on-going theme in many songs—that nothing is forever–memories of a a lost love –how we all grow and change—those are the story lines in “I Got the Boy,” told with catchy, clever lyrics that evoke Patsy Cline’s 1962’s heartfelt classic “She’s Got You.”
“I’ve got your class ring
She’s got you”
