Musical acts and artists come and go, some more important others—it’s the important ones we want to know about.

Even if we don’t like their sound, or image, or brand, we want to to be aware of popular music, whatever it is, for two reasons 1) to connect to the zeitgeist. A short cut to understanding a culture is to tap into their pop music—you get a feel for what’s going on, albeit with an emphasis on love, lust, break ups and makeups.

We want to stay connected to the zeitgeist because it helps keeps us engaged and young.

The second reason to connect to new music is that you get to hear some really great songs.

Such as anything by Charlie Puth.

He’s smooth; silky as a set of satin sheets, a supper-club kind of guy, singing here with Selena Gomez, a star in her own right, who is so hot she slithers, both as her songs climb the charts and in her delivery and style.

Their duet “We Don’t Talk Anymore” brings to mind the 70’s pop hit by the same name –“We Don’t Talk Anymore” sung by Cliff Richard, who was the Elvis of Great Britain—from the 60s and for decades after.

True, each song is unique, but there’s a pop sensibility to both as they deliver a similar message, which is how miserable it is when relationships end.

“We Don’t Talk Anymore” follows Puth’s previous release, “I’m Only One Call Away,” which went to #1 and is still in the Top Ten on Adult Top 40 radio and is a shoo-in to wind up high on the list of the years best.

Charlie Puth is a cute, clean cut, 24-year old singer/songwriter from New Jersey.

A music industry darling, he’s partnered and had hits with stars Wiz Khalifa and Meghan Trainor.

Apparently it takes a long time to “not talk anymore” because each of the above two songs are just about 4-minutes long.
