Dave Sholin’s mid-week pick:  “How Long” by 26-year old singer/songwriter and New Jersey boy Charlie Puth. It’s bolted up both the Top 40 and Adult Top 40 charts and is moving into position to become one of the first big hits of 2018.

“How Long” is a guy apologizing to his girl for being unfaithful, expressed in Charlie Puth’s silky, sophisticated, smooth, clean, supper-club presentation.  You could say he’s sings like a much hipper Michael Buble, or an updated Tony Bennett, even though his songs are produced and written differently, his slick vocals brings those acts to mind.

Puth’s first mega-hit “See You Again” a duet with Wiz Khalifa from the soundtrack of the film “Furious “ was followed by his breakout solo smash “One Call Away.”  https://boomermusicupdate.com/top-40/charlie-puth-sinatra-millennial-generation/

This is hardly the first time the question “how long has this been going on” has been posed in song, and most likely it won’t be the last. In 1975 the English band Ace were asking just that with their hit “How Long.”
