The Goo Goo Dolls, who have been around for 30 years, are generating mucho momentum on Adult Top 40 radio with their newest single, “So Alive,” which is from “Boxes,” their latest album, which came out last week.
The song is an introspective look into lead guitarist and singer John Rezeznik personal life, specifically the past few years, as he became sober–this new song’s theme is embracing the joy of life and love as a newly sober man.
The lyrics are “deep” and poetic and creative and original,
Feeling like a hero, but I can’t fly
No, you never crash if you don’t try
Took it to the edge, now I know why
Never gonna live if you’re too scared to die
Gonna disconnect from the hard wire
Time to raise a flag for the cease fire
Staring down the hole inside me
Looking in the mirror, making peace with the enemy
Conquering an addiction is an heroic task, and this song is a cheer for that accomplishment…joy is a lovely sentiment in a song.
“So Alive” is is reminiscent of Gary “The Dream Weaver” Wright’s ”Love is Alive,” which topped the pop and rock charts in the mid-70’s, and also embraces the joy of life and love –his lyrics are “deep” and poetic and creative and original, too
The Goo Goo Dolls have announced a summer tour.
