Is the news of the day bringing you down, maybe ruining your day? Than here’s a big uplifting dose of sunshine and hope!
Bobby McFerrin hit the jackpot in 1988 with “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” which just about everybody heard and liked, and while it’s a long shot that Michael Franti & Spearhead’s “Once A Day” could become that big, it still presents its positive message just brilliantly with a catchy pop-reggae sound …for example:
Everybody oughta hug somebody, at least once a day
And everybody oughta kiss somebody,at least once a day
Everybody’s gonna miss somebody, at least once a day
And everybody gotta love somebody, every day
Michael Franti is a San Francisco singer/songwriter/musician and political activist who’s had a long career (he’ll be 50 next year) with solid, mid-level hits -not at the Bobby McFerrin level. He has a loyal international following that appreciates his music and also his intent, which is to create music that tries to make a difference in peoples lives.
Franti formed the overtly political band The Beatnigs (that’s not a typo) in 1986, and after that he was part of The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, who wrote lyrics that railed against the world’s injustices.
Michael Franti is special. He’s committed to his art, and to his beliefs. He’s brilliant, educated, widely creative and caring, with a huge, giving, open heart.
