New in the U.S., but been around for a while, are a really young foursome from down under: “5 Seconds Of Summer” –-aka as “5SOS.”
Cleverly written lyrics, high energy, and youthful exuberance are getting their latest release “Hey Everybody” lots of radio play and lots of attention. It’s a “feel good” song.
Musically, it’s a throwback to the 80’s with an unmistakable nod to “Hungry Like the Wolf,” by Duran Duran, another song of youthful exuberance and high energy.
I don’t know what this says about today’s culture, but in 1982’s “Hungry Like the Wolf” the images are carnal, kind of raw, but the undercurrent of “Hey Everybody” is money and success.
And just as “Hungry Like the Wolf,” despite its bouncy, feel good presentation, had some thoughtful lyrics, so does “Hey Everybody.” For example:
“Hey everybody, we don’t have to live this way
We can all get some, yeah we can all get paid.”
