If you loved Heart in the 80s, it could have been because both Nancy and Ann were sexy and attractive, or maybe it was their ballsy, in your face, style, or “just something about them” that captured your heart.

To my ears, Pink’s newest, “What About Us,” has the big emotional reach and gutsy sound that Heart has,  plus Pink’s personal power, which is considerable.  Really big lungs.

And while Heart’s intent was clear and personal, Pink’s message is ambiguous:  is it personal, about a relationship, or is it political?  That’s for the listener to decipher.

Either way, “What About Us,” which is brand new, has received an overwhelmingly warm reception from both critics and radio, and is already charting in the Top 20-30 range on Top 40 and Adult Top 40.

On a personal note:  I know Pink is a major celebrity–she’s covered regularly by People magazine, and when I’ve seen her perform on TV, I’ve liked her work, but  “What About Us” is special–I’m hooked on Pink.

Her first album in five years, “Beautiful Trauma,” will be out in Oct.
